Economia: It is concentrated on activities such as tourism, fish, naval, thermonuclear and port industry. The tourist activity in the city has a great importance. The Municipal Government is investing in both the infrastructure of tourism facilities as the tourist and cultural attractions, to increase the stay of tourists in the area from two to four days, increasing the jobs in the sector in the order of 7 to 15%.

Traveling by car

The main roads are: BR 101(Rio-Santos), BR 116 ( Rodovia Presidente Dutra RJ/SP) and the RJ 155 (Rodovia Saturnino Braga, connects the city of Volta Redonda to Angra dos Reis).

Coming from São Paulo

Take Via Dutra or Ayrton Senna.

Coming from Caraguatatuba:

First, take Via Dutra. Once you are on the coast, go trough BR-101 towards Rio de Janeiro.

Coming from Rio de Janeiro

Go trough Av. Brasil until the end.  Soon it will become the beginning of  Rio-Santos (BR-101)

Coming from Belo Horizonte

Go trough BR-040, pass Três Rios (RJ) and take the BR-393 until Barra Mansa (RJ). Fell minutes later there will be the entrance to take BR-101 (Rio-Santos).
